Wheelchair lifts have become an important improvement in the way of life for wheelchair users. They allow people to access multiple floors within the same building independently and safely, which changes overall quality of life for the better.
Here at Transitions Lift + Elevator, we have been selling, installing, and servicing wheelchair lifts for more than 14 years now. And while the products are important, we really value the relationships we've formed with our customers and the positive effects we've observed in their lives as a result of their wheelchair lifts.
During the buying process, our customers always have questions. One top question involves the difference between a vertical platform wheelchair lift and an inclined wheelchair stair lift.
Vertical platform wheelchair lifts typically feature anti-slip flooring, self-closing doors, push buttons to call the lift, and a key switch to prevent unauthorized use. They go straight up and down, carrying the wheelchair user from level to level quickly and easily.
Inclined wheelchair stair lifts, on the other hand, utilize a stair case in order to travel the same pathway as the stairs. As the platform folds up when not in use, this allows the stairs to be used by walkers, as well. By using an existing staircase, this makes it easier to install with as few disruptions to the structure as possible.
As you can imagine, there are situations where each type is preferable, and people benefit from both. Part of getting the most out of your lift or elevator is knowing which one you need before making the purchase. That's why we always talk with our customers and help them get the right product for their unique needs.
